Rogowski coil smart grid current sensors for retrofit
Our Rogowski Coil sensors are relying on the Rogowski technology. The specificity of that technology is that it is working without magnetic circuits. It is also known as “air-core”.
A Rogowski sensor is formed by an evenly wound coil on a non-magnetic core. The winding wire is returning to the starting point along the center of the coil.
A Rogowski coil produces a voltage output based on the rate of change of the current input. The absence of magnetic core ensures low inductance and comes with no saturation, resulting with a fast response and no inserted losses.
Rogowski Coil sensors are Rogowski based sensors and used for measuring alternating current (AC) or high-speed current. The induced voltage being proportional to the derivative current in the straight conductor, it is common to plug an integrator to the output of the smart grid sensor as it will provide an output signal that is proportional to the current.
LEM is providing a complete range of Rogowski sensors (for both indoor and outdoor) and integrators.
Rogowski sensors’ absence of magnetic circuit offer several advantages:
Rogowski current sensors are suitable for various applications, from outdoor or harsh environment for utilities to indoor and C&I environments.
In these areas, they are especially designed for:
